About What People Miss
On the things we let go of without noticing
Last updated August 13, 2026
What People Miss is an independent publication about objects and everything next to it. It exists because the useful version of this subject is usually the one nobody has time to write.
Our house style is essayistic, curious, gently melancholic. We would rather publish one piece that holds up than five that fill a schedule.
What we cover
The site is organised into 6 sections:
- Objects — Things that were everywhere and then were not.
- Places — Buildings, shops and rooms that held a function nobody replaced.
- Work — Trades, roles and daily rhythms that the economy stopped needing.
- Rituals — Small repeated acts that fell out of the week.
- Sound & Signal — Noises, tones and interruptions that used to structure a day.
- Memory — How we store, misplace and reconstruct the recent past.
